Elchenburg castle is the site for WoW and you can view pictures of the site here. It is a 65 acre site with gently rolling fields with large flat areas. There will be designated handicapped parking in the first row of the the parking lot. There is a dirt and gravel road from parking to the bath house. Note, the bath house has a narrow porch and may be difficult to navigate a wheelchair or scooter. The bath house is a converted farm house with showers with hot water and flush toilets. If you can walk short distances, and negotiate a few stairs, you will not have a lot of trouble with the site, but if you cannot walk at all, this may prove difficult for you. Also, the bath house is a bit away from the camping area. However port-a-johns, including handicapped ones will be around the site. There are no paved paths. Most of the property is grassy field. There are hotels nearby in Yadkinville, NC and Elkin, NC if you don't want to camp, but make reservations early and check if the hotel is accessible. The Days Inn in Yadkinville does not have an elevator, and only a few ground floor accessible rooms, for instance. And for those of you who are novices to port-a-johns, they do not normally have lights in them, and believe me you don't want to feel your way around one in the dark, so bring a lantern you can set on the floor. Our Privy Steward is planning for lighting in every one, so this may not be true while at WoW. Most port-a-johns don't have hooks either, so you can't hang a flashlight up. You can't hang your cape up either, so you might want to consider that when making your run. Leave the seat down when you leave, this allows the fumes to vent out the top of the john, and not inside. It really makes a difference with the smell. Alcohol based hand sanitizers do not feel good on burns or rashes, so don't apply them there. And despite what you may have heard, they do not kill all germs. Warm soap and water is still best, so keep some handy at camp and visit the bath house whenever you can. |
